Travel : Winchester

We got to Winchester late afternoon. Checked into our hotel and headed out to see the town. An old walled city it had plenty of old buildings and plenty of the wall still in place including one of the gates.
We said goodbye to Charlie who jumped on a train back to London. Popped into one of the “Oldest pubs in England” but it was Greene King and not amazing. We headed down town , saw the statue of Alfred that Joe Bennett described as looking like Billy Connolly . We then walked down the river path along the old city wall and up to The Black Boy a quirky pub full of old signs and paraphernalia. We then went on in search of gammon egg and chips that JK was keen for me to experience. I had found a pub with it on the menu that turned out to be up a long hill. When we arrived it was booked out for Valentines Day. We had an unremarkable Wadworths XXXX and then headed back to town. We ended up eating at a Fullers pub before checking out the town craft beer bar and calling it a night .
